Aubuchon Hardware Sponsors Food Packaging Event to Benefit 16 Local Food Pantries

Westminster, Mass. – Aubuchon Hardware is sponsoring a food packaging event to benefit local food pantries in partnership with United Way of North Central Massachusetts on Jan. 20.

“We want to extend a special thanks to Aubuchon Hardware for making this event possible,” said Fran Longton, volunteer coordinator for United Way of North Central Massachusetts.

The event will be held at the VFW Hall in Westminster, on Jan. 20 from 12 to 4 p.m. Aubuchon Hardware employees and community volunteers will work in teams of 12 to assemble, package, seal and box nutritious meals of rice and beans and macaroni and cheese. The boxes of meals will be delivered to16 food pantries in Leominster, Fitchburg, Gardner, Devens, Pepperell, Templeton and Westminster.

“Community members are also welcomed to volunteer for our first Heroes Against Hunger event of 2016. We selected this week to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, which commemorates Dr. King’s life and teachings through community service projects that help to empower and strengthen local communities,” said Longton.

“Giving back to the community is important to Aubuchon Hardware and its employees,” said Will Aubuchon, president of Aubuchon Hardware. “The impact of these food packaging events is impressive, in a few hours we can prepare over 20,000 meals for local families.”

According to Longton, the Heroes Against Hunger events have made a significant impact on food pantry supplies in North Central Mass. Since the programs inception, over 300,000 meals have been packaged.
