United Way of North Central Massachusetts is seeking volunteers for this important event to help end hunger and food insecurity in the greater Athol area.
ATHOL, MA, August 2, 2018 – There are more than 500 children and families in Greater Athol who are food insecure. Combat Hunger is an innovative program that addresses this issue by organizing volunteers to help package nutritious meals that are delivered to local food pantries and schools.
The Combat Hunger event to benefit Greater Athol will take place on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 10:00am at the L. S. Starrett Company, 121 Crescent St., Athol. Combat Hunger requires 75 – 80 volunteers to handle a variety of tasks including early setup, meal bag labeling, box building, supply replenishment, and loading completed boxes onto the delivery truck. Registering to participate can be easily done online at https://uwncm.galaxydigital.com. Any questions please contact Fran, firstname.lastname@example.org or Randi, Randi@uwncm.org
“The Day of Caring is our largest event of the year and Combat Hunger is a great way to volunteer for this event.” said Fran Longton Volunteer Center Manager.
Known as the “world’s greatest toolmakers”, the L. S. Starrett Company has been a mainstay of the Athol community, and a family run business since 1890. Current President and CEO, Douglas A. Starrett, represents the 4th generation of family leadership, and he continues the company’s tradition of giving back. In addition to hosting Combat Hunger this year, L. S. Starrett is an employee owned company, with 50% of the stock belonging to current or retired employees.
“We are grateful that L. S. Starrett Company has graciously offered to host this event, and recognizes the importance of making sure no one in the Greater Athol community goes hungry,” said UWNCM President, Phil Grzewinski. “With help from volunteers and donors, we’re able to turn $10 into 29 delicious and nutritious meals.”
The Day of Caring is thankful for the tremendous support from the current Premier Sponsors, Johnson Controls and Doubletree Hilton-Leominster.
