United Way of North Central Massachusetts thanks the community for 'living united'

Leominster, Mass. – United Way of North Central Massachusetts recognized donors and volunteers during an evening of laughter and festivities at its annual thank-you celebration, held Wednesday at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Leominster. 

Wally Dwyer, president and CEO of North Middlesex Savings Bank, and volunteer campaign chairman for United Way of North Central Massachusetts, thanked the nonprofit organization’s volunteers and donors for contributing to this year’s fundraising efforts.

United Way campaign finale & thank-you event to be held April 8

The United Way of North Central Massachusetts will hold its 35th Campaign Recognition and Thank-You Event Apr. 8, 5:00 p.m, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Leominster, 99 Erdman Way. 

United Way will acknowledge volunteers and area companies for their workplace campaigns. Following the brief program, comedian Jim Colliton, who has been seen on Comedy Central’s Laugh Riots, will entertain the audience 

United Way and Community Foundation partner to provide food and utility assistance

In response to the increasing demand for food assistance, United Way of North Central Massachusetts and the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts made 16 grants to help meet an increasing demand for food and heating assistance. 

“Because of the stubbornly high demand, we were able to make $70,000 in grants, which will help keep families from going hungry and cold,” commented Phil Grzewinski, president of United Way of North Central Massachusetts and Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts.

HEATING ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS AVAILABLE

Unitil Corporation, (www.unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers throughout New England, is urging customers to be aware of fuel assistance programs available to assist with heating costs as winter approaches.

That was the message shared with nearly 100 nonprofit and community leaders who attended a heating assistance forum Thursday at the Colonial Hotel. The forum was hosted jointly by Unitil and the United Way of North Central Massachusetts.

Volunteers wanted for food packaging event April 8

 

Goal is to package 20,000 meals for local food pantries on April 8

 

Fitchburg, Mass. –  As part of National Volunteer Week, United Way Volunteer Center is hosting a food packaging event in partnership with Town & Country Apartments on April 8.

This is the second time this year that volunteers are wanted to help package meals that will be given to food pantries in Gardner, Templeton, Winchendon, Fitchburg, Leominster, Devens, Townsend and Pepperell.

United Way makes 16 new grants for food

For immediate release – In response to the increasing demand for food assistance, United Way of North Central Massachusetts made 16 grants to help meet an increasing demand for basic need services. 

“We are alarmed at the significant uptick in demand for food, so we have taken this proactive step of making nearly $50,000 in new grants to the frontline providers,” commented Phil Grzewinski, president of United Way of North Central Massachusetts.
