Community Builders announces grants to increase volunteerism

For Release (May 5, 2005) - Community Builders, a partnership between United Way of North Central Massachusetts and Mount Wachusett Community College to inspire volunteerism, announced a Fellowship program that will provide grants to address community issues.

Karson Aubuchon of Princeton, who chairs Community Builders, said that $23,000 in grant money will be awarded to individuals, organizations or businesses for ideas that engage volunteers to improve the community.

According to Aubuchon, the initiative can address many areas including substance abuse, youth development, safety, education or creating a support group for single moms. “If you see an opportunity to make your neighborhood, your church or your school better, we want to hear from you.”

The average Fellowship will range from $500 to $2,500, although larger requests will be considered. Interested candidates must submit a brief application with their background, the problem, the solution and how it will increase volunteerism.

The deadline is July 1, 2005 and the application requirements can be found at www.uwncm.org or www.mwcc.mass.edu or by calling the United Way of North Central Massachusetts at 978-345-1577.

Community Builders is a partnership between United Way of North Central Massachusetts and Mount Wachusett Community College and its corporate underwriters include Bemis Associates, Fitchburg Savings Bank, Norwood Fine Cabinetry and the Sterilite Corporation.
