WESTMINSTER, Massachusetts – Two United Ways will launch United Way Youth Venture programs as a result of seed grants awarded by Tyco SimplexGrinnell, a leader in the fire and life-safety industry.
The $30,000 grants will go to the Pike Peaks United Way, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and United Way of Greater New Bedford, serving southeastern Massachusetts. The support is made possible by the funds that employees from Tyco SimplexGrinnell and Tyco Integrated Security contributed during the recently concluded annual United Way Campaign.
This fall, the two United Ways will implement the innovative and successful school-based program, which empowers students to design and launch social ventures that build leadership and teamwork skills and provide a positive impact in the community.
The new grant funding represents the latest advancements in Tyco SimplexGrinnell’s ongoing effort to spread United Way Youth Venture across the United States. Over the past five years, Tyco SimplexGrinnell has provided grants and other support to establish United Way Youth Venture programs in 13 United Way organizations.
Tyco SimplexGrinnell President Bob Chauvin said the grants are the result of the generosity displayed by employees in support of the company’s commitment to build stronger, safer communities. “We care deeply about our communities, and Youth Venture is an amazing program that is developing the leaders of tomorrow and making the world a better place,” said Chauvin. “We are pleased to play a role in expanding this program and helping redefine the role of young people as leaders of social change.”
United Ways throughout the country were invited to submit proposals to Tyco SimplexGrinnell on how they would implement the program. The United Way of North Central Massachusetts, which founded United Way Youth Venture, works in partnership with Tyco SimplexGrinnell on the grant process and the ongoing growth and development of the program.
