So local children and families don't go hungry, United Way launched this innovative program that relies on volunteers to package nutritious meals that are delived to local food pantries.
Statistics don’t always tell the whole story. 1 in 4 or 5 children are food-insecure.
What does that mean for our community? In Gardner, 840 children don’t have enough food; Fitchburg, 1,845; Leominster, 1,855; Athol, 530. In the 22 communities we serve, it means too many kids don't have enough food.
Here is why:
A staggering 49 million in America, including 1 in 4 or 5 children, are food-insecure. 37% of young families in our country live below the poverty line (the highest level on record). We have local food banks and local food pantries and schools that would like more meals than we can produce.
Through our partnership with Outreach Inc., we are able to package a meal that will feed a family of four for .37. And best of all, they taste great and are healthy.
For our community to thrive, everyone needs food security. It is critical—especially for children—to have healthy and nutritious meals so they can learn, grow and be successful.
We need your help so we can package ANOTHER 20,000+ meals for local families through an innovative program that is harnessing the collective power of volunteerism to provide healthy and nutritious meals.
$10 = 29 meals $20 = 58 meals $50 = 147 meals
