Leadership Venture, Leominster High Schools - Seeing a need for more leadership opportunities at Leominster High, this venture Team creates and holds "Leadership Workshops" for school leaders.
Mums and Muffins, Samoset Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - This group of special needs students practices their skills by running a bakery for school staff and often visits the local nursing home with their baked goods.2003
Classroom Learning Activities for Samoset Students (C.L.A.S.S.), Samoset Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - Students at Samoset started this Venture in order to provide more learning activities for their 7th and 8th grade classes. Since the extracurricular activities that their school offered were too few and too exclusive, CLASS formed to elicit greater participation from their fellow classmates in more activities.
Learning Environment Activities for Students (L.E.A.F.S), Samoset Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - This Venture Team designed and built a greenhouse with the help of the Center for Technical Education students, to make environmental activities exciting for all students.
Operation Photojournalism, Leominster High School - This Venture Team creatively uses photos to publish school and community news in the school newspaper.
Project Launch Pad, Leominster High School - This Venture team creates a newsletter for 8th grade students to help them have a smooth experience from middle school to high school. Project Launch Pad members also visit all 8th grade classrooms to hold discussions and question and answer sessions with the students.
Shirley Bakes, Shirley Middle School - This Venture Team makes baked goods and sells them in the Shirley community at various community events. All profits are donated to organizations within the school and the town of Shirley.
Shirley School Store, Shirley Middle School- Shirley Middle School now has a school store that not only provides students with the supplies they need, they also donate a portion of their profits to charity.
Tech Awareness Venture, Leominster High School - These Venturers take pictures and create videos of school and community events that are then showcased on the local cable station.2004
Energy Through Creativity (E.T.C.), Shirley Middle School - Noticing a lack of activities for younger students after school, this group of middle school girls that love to dance started this Venture Team. They hold after-school dance classes for 4th grade girls at the elementary school. At the end of the school year they invite parents and community members to a recital where the 4th graders show all that they have learned.
Good Sport, Shirley Middle School - This Venture Team raises money through sports tournaments for students. They raise money by selling refreshments and donated sports equipment. All money raised is used to replace damaged text books at the middle school.
Kids at Play, Shirley Middle School - This Venture Team provides after-school activities, such as arts and crafts for elementary students.
SAFE, Shirley Middle School -This Venture Team provides fun after school entertainment for all, by playing movies and holding other after school activities. This gives people both young and old a place to go and share in activities together. 2005
Community Outreach Mural Project (C.O.M.P.), Leominster High School - Using their magnificent talents in graphic design and art, this Venture Team paints murals for display at community events, as well as in the pediatrics wing of the local hospital.
Charity Garden, Shirley Middle School - With a passion and skill for gardening this group of middle school boys planted a community vegetable garden. All of the vegetables that are grown are donated to the local food bank.
Little People’s Literature, Sky View Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - This Venture Team shares their belief in early literacy by creating gift bags containing donated and self made books. The gift bags are given out to new mothers at the local pediatrician’s office.
Nature’s Den, Leominster High School - This Venture Team has designed and created an outdoor classroom for the Leominster High School community. The classroom includes an amphitheatre, benches, landscaping and original mosaic murals. Nature’s Den hosts events for the arts, music and theatre students, and for all of the community to enjoy.
Shirley Arts for All (S.A.F.A.), Shirley Middle School - This Venture Team started a scholarship fund for the Shirley Arts Program. The Team sells hot dogs and refreshments at school and community events to raise money for the fund.
Students Taking Action in Massachusetts Politics (S.T.A.M.P.), Leominster High School - This Venture Team works to create awareness and promote youth activism at the local and state level.
Wildcat Wares Wagon, Samoset Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - This group of special needs students opened a school store to promote school spirit and raise money for school activities.
SMS Literary Magazine, Shirley Middle School - With many talented students within the middle school, this Venture Team decided to create a literary magazine for the school where students can submit written work. The magazine is published and shared with the school and the community.
Fix it Up Wrap It Up, Shirley Middle School - This Venture Team sews clothing items which are donated to local charities and sold to raise money for local charities.2006
The Buzz Literary Magazine, Sky View Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - The new literary magazine at Sky View gives all students the opportunity to have their voice heard and an outlet for sharing valuable information with students, staff, families, and community.
Giving Back to the Community, Leominster High School - This Venture creates a fun and safe outdoor sporting event for the special needs students in Leominster Public Schools.Willing to Help Venture – Queriendo Ayudar, Samoset Middle School, Leominster Public Schools - This multi-cultural Venture works with diverse elderly citizens making monthly visits and engaging in a variety of activities.
Team Ultimate,Parker Charter Essential School - This Venture team teaches team building skills to inner-city elementary and middle school girls at Girls Inc. through the game and culture of Ultimate Frisbee. Through several meeting sessions throughout the year, and through playing Ultimate Frisbee, the girls develop self-confidence, self-awareness and team building skills.
Patriot Gardens, North Middlesex Regional High School - Working together with the Life Skills program at the school, as well as the Best Buddies program, these students renovate and improve a courtyard for all to enjoy. They plant flowers, vegetables and herbs to sell in their Coffee Stop restaurant, and to help fund future renovations.2007
Traveling Through the World, Leominster High School - The diverse team members from Honduras, Brazil and Dominican Republic provide the many culturally diverse students in their school the opportunity to learn about different cultural traditions through after school activities involving dance, food and sport. Students who participate can learn dances such as the Samba and the Forro, sample foods from different countries, and can play soccer in the fall. The team also holds a student and parent social in May to celebrate cultural diversity with their families and friends.Leominster Advocates for Nature’s Den (L.A.N.D.), Leominster High School - This team is made up of talented music students at the high school who want to further enhance the unique outdoor learning space of Nature’s Den classroom into an outdoor auditorium for band concerts and community events. They hold a wide variety of events in Nature’s Den auditorium including school committee meetings, benefit concerts, art exhibits, school barbeques, and student advisory meetings.
Riverfront Revival of the Arts, Fitchburg High School - In an effort to bring back the arts to the city of Fitchburg, this venture team created the First Annual Riverfront Revival of the Arts to be held at Riverfront Park on June 30th. The team will hold an annual outdoor community art exhibit featuring photography, paintings, sculpture, crafts, floral arrangements, local music, and food. The Fitchburg High School Jazz Band will be among the musical talents. Submissions for the exhibit extend to young people and adults within the community, and prizes will be given to each category winner. The event will be one of Fitchburg’s Civic Days, and will be held during the weekend of the famous Fitchburg Longsjo Bike Race.
From Crocker to Crocker, Fitchburg High School - This venture team is holding an after school track program for fourth graders at Crocker Elementary. They will teach the students with basic track and field skills, and will give them a safe, positive, recreational environment in which to learn and be active. At the end of the year, the team will host a track meet on May 30th for the youngsters, where they will be given trophies and awards.
Skaters of Shirley (S.O.S.), Shirley Middle School - Recognizing the need for a safe place to practice their favorite activity, and using several fundraising strategies, the team will begin to create a community skate park at Benjamin Hill Park in Shirley. The members of this team include young people from Shirley and the surrounding communities, and attend several different schools.
Environmental Crew, Gardner High School - This team hosted an All-City Clean-up Day on April 21st in Gardner. The team organized over 100 volunteers, both young and old, to help with the clean-up efforts. The event was also registered as a National & Global Youth Service Day, among thousands of youth-led events across the country and the globe. The team plans to hold additional environmental awareness activities throughout the year.
Senior Citizen’s Senior Prom, Gardner High School - In an effort to strengthen the bond between the older and younger generations in Gardner, this Venture Team has planned a "Senior Citizen’s Senior Prom". The Senior Citizen’s Senior Prom is a "prom" for the senior citizens of our community, held the evening of May 10th at Gardner High School. A time for nostalgia, the event gives them the chance to bond with a number of students at the high school and with other fellow senior citizens, and dance to the music they remember.
Fighting Back, North Middlesex High School - This group of high school students helps raise awareness of teen dating violence through art displays. They create and paint large, mobile murals for display to help educate local youth on dating violence prevention.
Club PAGE, Parker Charter Essential School - This Team will hold a book club which will encourage young and old to get more involved in reading by making visits to schools, reading to children and adults. The club will also hold book discussion groups and used book sales.
Extreme Makeover: Field Edition, Murdock Middle High School - This Venture Team will be using several methods of fundraising to create a more accessible baseball field for all members of the community and school to enjoy. They will hold cleanups and install a new drainage system, build dugouts and install a new scoreboard. They hope to use their new baseball field to hold baseball summer camps for young children.
Project Swim, Shirley Middle School - The Project Swim team will help the community by giving kids something to do in the summer. Being a part of the Shirley Swim Team will give kids from Shirley and the surrounding towns a place and time to exercise and be healthy.
The Rolled-Up Newspaper, Shirley Middle School, Lura A. White Elementary School - The Rolled-Up Newspaper Team will work with elementary students to create and write a newspaper for the students at Lura A. White Elementary School. The newspaper will educate and inform the school and greater Shirley community of the goings-on of the school.
2008
Hawk’s Nest, Leominster School District, Sky View Middle School - This team of 8th grade students is pursuing their dream to design and build an outdoor classroom that will leave a lasting legacy at Leominster’s Sky View Middle School. Attending a school that overlooks an "amazing" scenic view, these students are working to design and carry out an outdoor classroom that they themselves and every student that succeeds them will always appreciate.
Once the classroom is complete, the team intends for classes to be held there during warm weather days, and for functions to be held there in the evenings. The team is working very closely with their Ally, Mr. Paul Healy, to incorporate Geometry lessons into team activities. Their community partner, Matt Bernard of LandPro Landscaping Inc., is also playing a vital part in helping to guide their Venture and plans to make a large in-kind donation.
Backyard Group Venture, Leominster School District, Sky View Middle School - This team of 6th graders at Sky View Middle School is planning to build an outdoor learning lab for science classes. They believe that in order to properly learn about the environment they should attend class outside and have liberal access to the eco-system that they are studying. The team is working with Dr. Robert Bertin of Holy Cross College’s Department of Biology, as well as representatives from the Nashua River Watershed Association.
Positive Pre-School Pals, Leominster School District, Samoset Middle School - This team is comprised of eight lead Venturers, and encompasses their entire E.L.L. (English Language Learners) class. As a group of students with English as their second language, they have quickly learned how important it is to know how to read. Their venture has been working to partner with a pre-school within the Samoset Middle School and serve as mentors to the pre-school students there. The team reads and performs crafts with the students, and has also held book drives throughout the year to benefit the pre-school.Parker STAND, Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School - This team is made up of three young women who are enthusiastic and passionate about educating their community about genocide in Darfur and worldwide. One of the mechanisms they have designed to educate their peers and members of their community on this issue is to fundraise for anti-genocide causes. They have three large events planned for this year. The first event was a "community night", held at O’ Naturals, a local restaurant. The girls raised more than $500 selling shirts and bracelets and will also receive a percentage of the restaurants proceeds. Their other two planned events are an all-school movie night and a benefit concert.
