Why It Is Important

United Way Collective Impact Fund

United Way Collective Impact Fund is focused on creating opportunities for a better life for all in North Central Massachusetts. What makes the fund unique is that it addresses the basic things that we all need for a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, income that can support a family through retirement, and good health. These three areas, Health, Education and Financial Stability are the building blocks that create a healthy community.

At United Way, we believe the best way to address all three areas is to focus our energy and resources on education—in particular—youth development. Our goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems. Studies have shown that we all win when a child succeeds in school.

Youth Development & Education

  • Represents 65% of our outcome-based programming
  • Over 5,600 youth are reached through United Way's Community Impact initiatives
  • 7 after school programs
  • 3 summer programs
  • 4 youth violence prevention programs
  • 2 initiatives – United Way Youth Venture & Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Public Health Issues

In addition to youth development, United Way is addressing public health issues through three programs as they pertain to substance abuse and domestic violence.

Safety Net Programs

We are also committed to providing basic needs, such as emergency food and shelter for those most in need.  Currently, United Way is serving over 30,000 individuals through our community partners.

Why is it important?

These areas have been identified through a community assessment that surveyed all levels of our community to understand the greatest needs.  Those surveys were cross-referenced with hard data provided through many organizations, both local and state, to give a comprehensive look at our region.

How we work to achieve our goals

United Way of North Central Massachusetts’ goal is to create lasting change in community conditions.  We have made a commitment to our donors and partners to support their community's most effective, efficient non-profit programs.  Our United Way recognizes the need to focus resources and strategies on the most critical areas of need – as determined not by United Way, but by the community!

We focus on community change – by working with partners in both nonprofit and business to create opportunities that might not otherwise exist in our region.
